The black caiman (Melanosuchus niger) is a species of alligator exclusive of South America also known as Alligator-black, is a top predator in the food chain. Adult specimens of large prey can any animal habitat, including other top predators such as leopards, cougars, pythons and anacondas, if they are surprised by these animals. Usually feeds on small animals such as turtles, fish, capybaras and deer. This species was on the brink of extinction due to the commercial value of his leather black color and its flesh. Currently, it is protected and its population is stable in Brazil. It is the largest species of alligator, reaching up to 6 feet long and more than three hundred kilograms. However copies have been found to over 6.5 meters in length and possibly half a ton in weight.
